OUR PORTFOLIO

The play tells the story of Dona Alma, a woman approaching 80 years old who lives
alone and spends her nights watching jewelry auctions on television. A widow, she
raised her three children, Paulo Horácio, Paola Helena, and Paulo Henrique, always
keeping them close, thus maintaining a good relationship with her family. As usual,
she gathers her children, grandchildren, and other relatives for lavish Sunday
lunches. On this particular occasion, they are planning a surprise for her, as it’s
Mother’s Day and everyone managed to be present.

Gradually, one by one, they arrive for the long-awaited gathering, and the audience
begins to realize that the guests do not feel as comfortable as expected. Amidst
revealed secrets, bluntly spoken ironies, resentful outbursts of hurt feelings, and
unexpected surprises, everything unfolds with a lot of humor. This is a family like any
other, where despite emotional and ideological conflicts, everyone loves each other
unconditionally. It’s a comedy that not only makes the audience laugh but also
addresses important subjects such as family dynamics, parental expectations of
children and vice versa, career choices, achievements, frustrations, dreams, empty
nest syndrome, and most importantly, Alzheimer’s disease.

The play “Madwomen” recounts, through letters sent and received, the days of Maria
do Pilar, who was admitted to a mental asylum at a young age. An artist ahead of her
time, with avant-garde thoughts, she was misunderstood by her family and the
society of her era.

The character represents not only Pilar’s story but also the stories of many women
who were forced to give up their lives, locked away in psychiatric hospitals simply for
thinking, questioning, and having opinions.

The play depicts a moment in Carmen Miranda’s life when, already established as
one of the main Brazilian personalities in the United States, she returned to Brazil for
a show at the Cassino da Urca. Upon being received by the Rio de Janeiro elite, who
were linked to the integralist ultra-nationalist movement, the singer was booed for
allegedly “selling out to the American government.”

Unaware of this context, Carmen fell into deep sadness. The play explores the
internal dialogue Carmen had with herself during this time, portraying how she might
have reacted in the dressing room of the Cassino da Urca.

“I Always Knew” is the title of the book that journalist Majô Gonçalo is launching and
speaking about. In her first public appearance, our protagonist presents a story of
love, the purest and most unconditional love one can feel. The love of a mother.

Mothers capable of any kind of sacrifice for the love of their children. Mothers who,
faced with their children’s reality, reinvent themselves, rebuild themselves to maintain
their offspring’s dignity. Lioness mothers who pounce with sharp claws on those who
try to harm their children out of prejudice or ignorance. Mothers for diversity, mothers
willing to reorganize their homes, their families in respect and dedication to their
children’s choices.
